If you’re a Canadian, it’s almost impossible to NOT do business with companies in the United States.  Calling customer service is unavoidable.  Calls to the US are considered “international long distance calls”, even though it’s right across the border, which means higher telephone rates when you dial internationally - especially from cell phones.  Some plans charge more than $1/minute long distance for international calls!  And you may also incurr roaming fees too!

But now there’s a way to call any listed business in the United States from any Canadian landline or cell phone for free

Google just launched a new service called Google Voice Local Search, a.k.a. GOOG-411.   You access the free directory service by calling 1-800-GOOG-411 or the secret alternative access number for GOOG-411.  The cool thing is that this new service is free and accessible from Canada.  The 2nd cool thing is that Google will connect your call for free to the U.S. business you are trying to find and call.

Go head, reach out and touch someone (in the U.S.A.!).
