Every kid has an iPod these days.  In fact, you kid probably has multiple iPods as the old ones have become outdated and you’ve bought the latest iPod Nano for them.

 

At 99 cents a song and now tv shows and movies being distributed through iTunes, you may want to be a little more careful about what type of content your kids are allowed to preview, watch, listen and download through iTunes.com.

 

iTunes does have parental controls built into the application and it’s easy as 1-2-3 to turn them on. . .

 

HOW TO TURN ON PARENTAL CONTROLS FOR iTUNES

  1. Launch the iTunes application
  2. Go to FILE > PREFERENCES
  3. Click on the PARENTAL CONTROLS tab
  4. You’ll find a couple of options to set appropriate restrictions for TV shows (ie. G, PG, TV-14, etc), Movies (PG-13, etc) and explicit content
  5. There’s also an option to LOCK the settings with the Administrator’s password

 

 

 

A couple of things to note if you are going to take advantage of the parental controls:

  • Disabling the iTunes Store in parental controls will also disable the MiniStore.
  • Parental controls are available in iTunes 5, iTunes 6, and iTunes 7
  • Windows 2000 and Mac OS X versions earlier than Mac OS X 10.3 do not support the locking feature in iTunes parental controls
