Why You Don’t Need Verizon FiOS or Comcast High Speed Internet Service
Sometimes faster is NOT better.
Sometimes more is NOT needed.
Sometimes you just want the basic package.
But WHEN, you ask? How about for your parents home where they don’t go online all that often or even when they do, they type so slow that a fast internet connection just won’t be noticed at all. Perhaps YOU need an internet connection whenever you visit, but you don’t visit that often, and can get away with DSL speed — you just don’t want dial-up.
That’s when you need “regular” high speed internet service. And thankfully, not everyone is pushing the higher-end services, even Verizon. Verizon has a plan that’s 20 times faster than dial-up, but only $15/month vs the $42.95 I’m paying Comcast each month for my high speed internet connection at home. Saving $335 would actually make you reconsider if you do need all that bandwidth.

DSL is easy to set-up with a self-install kit, so you don’t have to wait around for a technician to come and set it up. They also have 24/7 customer support which I used when I was in the city with DSL a little while back.
So the solution for now is to get the “basic” Verizon High Speed Internet service, even though FiOS is available to my mother-in-law’s home. It’s enough to get me by and not too much for the wallet to handle.
