Samsung Blackjack Tip: How To Perform A Hard Master Reset on the Samsung Blackjack i607 [video]
Although I clearly still love the Samsung Blackjack even after the release of the iPhone, I came across a little glitch last week (which is a MICROSOFT PROBLEM, not Samsung Blackjack issue) with Windows Mobile. It would not let me re-boot past the Windows Mobile start-up screen. This problem started after I upgraded to ActiveSync 4.5.
AT&T Wireless / Blackjack tech support told me to go back to ActiveSync 4.2 becuase 4.5 wasn’t as stable in their experience. So uninstalling I went.
In the meantime, I had to get my phone back to normal so I could re-sync with the old ActiveSync.
After trying the normal troubleshooting, I just said, it was easier to do a hard master reset and wipe the phone clean. However, AT&T tier 1 support didn’t know how, since you had to be at the Windows Mobile desktop to do a “hard reset” supposedly.
Luckily, I asked to go to Tier 2 support, and as I guessed, there was another way.
Here’s how to do a Hard Master Reset on the Samsung Blackjack:
- TURN OFF the Samsung Blackjack cell phone completely & take out the battery for a couple minutes.
- PRESS & HOLD the END CALL BUTTON + TOP CIRCULAR NAVIGATION BUTTON down at the same time.
- TURN ON the phone (power button located on TOP of the phone)
- FOLLOW the on-screen instructions (see video).
- WAIT for the phone to erase all data from the device and you’ll have an out-of-the-box Samsung Blackjack
BTW, Once you get your phone back in action, you might want to check out some of the other tips for the Samsung Blackjack and Samsung Jack cell phone on www.essistme.com.

You can watch the video on the page when using Internet Explorer…

KEVIN, I don’t believe you need to take out the SIM card before starting the hard master reset on the Samsung Blackjack.
But beware that your data on the SIM (like contacts saved to SIM) may be lost.
It’s probably best to remove the SIM card before doing the hard reset.

Thanks – wish I had checked your video before wasting all the time I did with AT&T tech support. I appreciate your help.

THIS was a life saver. I, too, love my Blackjack I and, in my haste to upgrade to a Blackberry, I forgot my password to the Blackjack. So, when I eventually returned the BB and went back to my Blackjack, I locked it up and panicked. Thanks for the research!

You can also do this by powering off, then before powering up, hold the up key (circle around the OK). It will ask if you want to format or not. Press 1 for yes.

The hard reset didn’t work on my phone until I removed the SIM card, but this did the trick and saved me the hassle of dealing with AT&T customer service.
Now the fun of reconfiguring it and reinstalling all of my apps!

September 17, 2009 - 7:44 pm
@Michael – never heard of that one. I’d suggest to try the entire process from scratch again from step 1. If that doesn’t help, call ATT Wireless and ask to be escalated to Tier 2 support.

This didn’t work for me
my phone is stuck on a white screen. Nothing is working- if anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
November 7, 2009 - 6:37 am
@Ashley, try to take out the battery, wait, put it back in and start the entire process again. Hopefully that should work. Some users have reported getting stuck in the middle of the process and when they did this, it worked.

This was a great piece. I was worried I would have to do this to change my user name & domain with windows mobile activesync after googling this to death, but you do not you do the following:
Click on the ActiveSync icon on your Windows Mobile device
Click on “Menu” and then “Options”…
At this point you should see in the main window the text “Choose the data you want to sync:” and a checklist of items (Contacts, Calendar, email, and tasks) that you can select or unselect.
You’ll notice above the check list but below the “choose the data…” there is a title like “Microsof Exchange”–it should be highlighted unless you move the cursor down onto the select list. With this title highlighted, select “Menu”
Select “Delete”. Then go add the new!!
