The web is an amazing place.  It’s beauty lies in the power of connecting individuals from around the world where platforms can be built to focus and aggregate knowledge and expertise on various subjects for transfer of knowledge.

 

 

While discussion forums have long provided this type of solution for people in search of solutions, advice, and just plain old answers, one of the recent attempts to bring answers and the relevant questions together is a much more straight-forward approach - build Q&A sites where individuals can post questions and other people contribute their own knowledge with answers for everyone to enjoy.  The collective database of Q&A builds over time and can certainly become a powerful asset of content for the masses to enjoy.

  • Answers.Google.com – the “original” which is now closed to new questions, but the database of previously “paid” answers still exist — “paid” means that the quality of the answers tend to be good if you find a question that’s just like the one in your head
  • Answers.Yahoo.com – the “biggie” now, one of the few areas where Yahoo! got it right and beat Google.
  • Experts-Exchange.com – focused on free answers to tech questions, been around for 10 years.
  • Askville.com – Amazon‘s lastest entry into the non-retail world
