Everyone in America wants one.
Companies have sites, churches have websites, families have sites, special interest groups have sites, students have sites, some pets even have their own websites, weddings — the “event” itself can have it’s own website, all people want their own personal website or blog.

The first step is probably the easiest, but for most laypeople, this could be the most expensive step if you don’t have a clue where to go to . . .register a website address.

Domain name registration as it is also called has become a commodity business, but there are still many companies out there that take advantage of less-educated newbies to the webmaster world and will charge an inordinate amount of money for the same exact service.

I personally recommend a couple of accredited registrars that I personally use for my own network of websites. One of them is 1and1 Internet – the world’s largest webhosting company. Yet they consistently offer pretty much the cheapest offers possible for a new website address.

A standard .com website domain name is only $5.99/year. Some other companies bilk customers at $30/year or more for the same exact service. In addition, the freebies that you get are decent fare from 1&1 Internet.

Sometimes they have sales on other TLD’s (website extensions like .net, .biz, .info, .us, etc etc) — for example, you can get a _____.us website address for only $2.99/year. That’s a great entry-level price where you can test out the waters with very little risk.

In fact if you wanted ONLY a custom email address, this is the best source to use for registering a custom domain name for that purpose.

What registrar have you used in the past? Are you happy with their services? Why? Why not? Leave a comment below to share your experiences with other readers!
