CONFIRMATION: Microsoft Addicted To Powerpoint
Steve Ballmer sure got up early today.
At 8:30am Eastern – that’s 5:30am Left Coast time, Microsoft held a conference all to explain the pandamonium that was unleashed this morning.
They gave some initial reasons for the proposed merger with Yahoo!
Of course, you can’t do a presentation without a Powerpoint show, that’s the drug of choice for the business world that Microsoft has been pushing for years. But here’s confirmation that Redmond is addicted to the same conference-room-drug that it’s pushing itself. So the webcast included a 7-slide presentation. . .of which only 5 slides has actual content — of which one had a pretty graph didn’t really say much (online advertising is a great business); and then it had some generic messages that basically said, we’ll be better at doing business by working together (which they haven’t done to date!) as well as we’ll save money (read: layoffs!).
It doesn’t drill down at all into the nitty gritty, and some of the press coverage gives more details of the rationale and plans, but here it is in it’s original Microsoft form:
