Here’s a quick and easy deal for anyone that owns a computer, mobile phone or any other consumer electronics gadget that you purchased in the last 5 years (READ: That’s YOU).

PC Magazine is one of the industry’s standard magazines that gives useful tips, reviews and how-to articles for the average person.

Usually, I can find at least one article that’s useful or a new website to visit worth the opportunity cost of picking up the magazine to read.  Right now, that’s the only cost you have to incur — meaning you’ll have no out-of-pocket cost – with this completely free subscription offer for PC Magazine.

One of my SOP’s for magazines is to pick it up immediately upon delivery and then quickly flip through the magazine cover to cover.

I DO NOT READ THE MAGAZINE at that time.

Instead, I tear out any article or ad that catches my eye and put it into a folder that collects stuff to read.  I take the magazine and pass it along to any friend (or stranger!) that I’ll meet that day or toss it into the recycling bin.

There are tons of opportunties where taking along that reading folder will help me make short periods of downtime (like waiting in the car when picking someone up, or getting to a meeting early, or traveling on the plane…) completely productive.

This change in how I “process” magazines and newspapers has done two things immediately:  1) gets rid unsightly and anxiety-inducing piles of unread magazines around the office and home, and 2) completely increases productivity whenever I have time to read something.

Try it yourself — The results are much larger than it seems.

It’s basically like getting a Tivo… where anytime you sit in front of the TV, you are amazed at how much time you used to waste enduring stuff you don’t want to watch, and you find yourself spending much more time consuming content you really want to view — and more of it.
