Computers are a fact of life. They are everywhere and used by everyone…

For example, even my daughter learned how to Shut Down Windows when she was in pre-school and 3 1/2…

Nowadays, you run into situations where you wish you could show someone you know what you’re looking at on your computer screen.

Perhaps this is especially true when you’re trying to troubleshoot some problem that keeps arising, and you just know that your geeky friend can fix it in seconds — only if he saw it first hand since you just cannot describe it in words well enough to get the quick fix secrets.

Introducing live desktop sharing. Long available to IT chipheads and business webcasts/web collaboration from huge companies like WebEx, this quite useful feature is now available to the masses….for free too.

Now, you can instantly and painlessly let someone else see your computer screen as if they had a long monitor cord to your PC connected through the internet. You can let them see what you’re doing on your monitor and they can watch everything that happens.

Live desktop sharing is being made available easily and free by the new acrobat.com website. Acrobat is associated with the ubiquitious PDF file format. (You may not think of it this way, but PDF format was created so that you can easily share and collaborate on electronic documents regardless of what computer, fonts, programs, etc that the other party has)

Now, acrobat.com has been launched to allow you to share and collaborate through other means as well.

There are 5 free tools available right now:

  • Group document editing and collaboration
  • PDF document conversion and sharing (you can also embed them into your website for free)
  • Share large files without others (great for when files are bigger than email allows)
  • Online file storage
  • Live desktop sharing

The Live Desktop Sharing is the one feature that is realtively new to the consumer market.  And making it free is a sweet benefit. You’ll get your own url http://connectnow.acrobat.com/YOURCUSTOMIDHERE  which your friends can go to from anywhere in the world.  And when you’re logged in, you’ll see who wants to join your session (and approve/deny them).

Acrobat live desktop sharing even includes all the standard bells and whistles too:

  • There’s the main window to share the desktop view
  • A chat box for live instant messaging – to the entire group that’s logged on or privately one on one
  • Webcam support to allow video interaction
  • Phone conferencing is included in a dummy-proof way for free too!  Just dial the call-in number and you’ll instantly enter a teleconference room just for your participants

This is a great tool for small businesses and/or individuals.
