Personal Technology Tips in Plain English
Are You A Text-a-holic? Yeah, I’m Talking To YOU.
Sep 17th
A friend just sent me a link to a parody video and said I was the first person to cross the mind while watching it.
Are you one of those people that have the phone handset glued to your palm? You can’t put down because you’re doing one of a couple of things, over and over and over again, even if it’s not for texting alone:
- Checking your email since the last time you pressed check email 1 second ago
- Browsing your Facebook app
- Trying to take photos and tweet them to the world that isn’t really listening since you have only have 12 followers
- Checking your email in between tasks
- Texting a friend 2 C wuzup?
- Downloading totally useless apps and playing them whenever you get a chance.
- Checking your email just in case you missed an email that might have just came in.

IS THIS YOU?
Here’s the funny video — check it out for yourself:
What do you think?
It’s funny alright. . .
But is it true?!
7 Secrets of a Social Media Maverick for Creating Killer Content on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr
Jun 18th
Today we have a guest post from a social media manager colleague of mine, Tim Cox.
I asked him what are some of the fundamental approaches that he believes separates newbies and mavericks on the various social media platforms. Enjoy his 7 social media management tips!

On my personal accounts, I hide a lot of Pages on my Facebook Newsfeed.
I even created a video documenting how to hide those annoying Mafia Wars and FarmVille updates on Facebook.
If you visit the actual video landing page on YouTube, you will find that the comments section makes it sound like I just cured malaria.
Getting such rich interactivity isn’t that hard if you have some key insights and intentionality in how you manage your social media presence.
This below, is the actual video example I wrote about above — you can hop over to the YouTube page if you want too.

How To Sync Twitter Tweets With Facebook Status Updates
Feb 22nd
Most of my friends think I live on Facebook and Twitter because they see so many tweets and FB status updates stream across both social media platforms all day every day.
The truth of the matter is that I spend 1/2 the time they think I am on both sites. How?
I have a Facebook-Twitter application which takes anything I tweet and it automatically posts it to my Facebook status immediately. Thus, my Facebook status feed looks well populated throughout the day and week. The truth is that I may not log into Facebook for a week at a time, but it sure looks like I’m over there (another great tip is that you can both read and respond to Facebook posts outside of www.Facebook.com with TweetDeck.
Now whenever I tweet, it will automatically sync my Facebook status update with the same thing!
1) Click on GOODIES at the bottom of any page at www.twitter.com
Virtual Insanity: Facebook Edition
Feb 5th
The march goes on.
Social networks are continuously trying to climb the social ladder by upping the ante almost weekly. Any regular user has experienced the social media sites’ constant redesigning of their interfaces in hopes of getting us users to use their sites more than the competitor sites as well as just use them more often period.
For example, Twitter recently tweaked their retweeting feature, have added personal lists features, hover pop-ups and other small updates they push out continuously time goes on.
Facebook is no different. They just changed the “news feed” display by adding the “live” option (which no one I know has ever fully understood). Â FB has also changed navigation and various other things along the way as expected.
But I just logged into my Facebook account today and was pleasantly surprised to see the new welcome message on my Facebook homepage:
“Welcome to your new, simplified home page.” [EMPHASIS MINE]

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that “new, simplified home page” on Facebook. Â It was just plain scary!!
Why they do things like this? Doesn’t anyone over there do any sort of user testing before they push out new features and functionality to the entire world?
I’m sitting here wondering, just where in the world on this page do you want me to look first?
Ironically, there’s a “Facebook Lite” promo link at the top of the page trying to push a “fast and simple” version of Facebook.
I know, I know, these changes are happening because Facebook wants to compete with Gmail and email in general. The Google generation doesn’t email their friends anymore anyway. . .unless you want to attach and send a file (hint to FB coders, this is one new feature which would make sense).
But in the meantime, is it time to create a “I wish Facebook would stop messing with Facebook” Facebook group? Will you join?
Are You A Facebook Spammer?
Jul 7th
Ever since I started to Twitter, I’ve used the Twitter-To-Facebook application which basically takes my Twitter updates and then automatically syncs them to Facebook.
The net result is that my Facebook status updates are updated more often than how many times my Facebook friends update theirs. I guess whenever they log into FB, a good portion of their friendfeeds are MINE!
People who are on both Facebook and Twitter understand.
People who aren’t on Twitter get confused.
Some people think I LIVE on Facebook.
Others think I’m out there just spamming their Facebook accounts with useful (and some useless) information. It’s all about the WIIFM syndrome.
Am I alone in this? Have you been accused of spamming their Facebook pages?
BTW: If you want to know how I do this, all you have to do is sync your Twitter account to Facebook and it’s “set-it and forget-it!”
Take Your Addiction With You: Facebook App for Windows Mobile
Jun 19th
You spend way too much time on Facebook as it is.
But not, you can do it away from the keyboard so that it LOOKS like you’re not as addicted as you are.
Now any Windows Mobile phone like the Samsung Jack is your new Facebook portal with the Windows Mobile Facebook Application.
Up to now, your social media addictions either kept you returning to your computer or you started a 2nd line of social media crazziness like Twitter.
Now, you have two outlets on your computer, and another one for your Windows Mobile cell phone.
I think the neatest part of this application is that you can upload photos AND videos to your Facebook profile.
Go ahead, and download it now. Just don’t forget to friend me when you do.
