Deal Alert: Blockbuster Total Access Price Cut to $1.66/movie
Are you using Netflix or Blockbuster Total Access to rent DVD’s by mail?
Do you really get to watch as many movies as you thought you would when you signed-up? Do you really watch more than 3 movies a month at home?
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could pay only $5 a month and get 3 movies a month?
Well, Blockbuster has rolled out their latest attack on the Netflix market by going towards the $1 store model. You get 2 DVD movies by mail for $4.99/month. And you still get the bonus printable coupon every month for an extra movie or game rental. That’s 3 movies every month for $5 — which is probably much closer to the actual viewing experience for the bulk of Blockbuster’s customers.
Customers still get the unlimited videos during the trial to test out the service and afterwards can simply choose the $4.99 Blockbuster-By-Mail plan.
Since you get the bonus coupon for a free video or game rental plus 100% of DVD’s can be exchanged for additional free in-store DVD movie rentals, Blockbuster now clearly has the value & convenience advantage.
I’ve been able to squeeze out over 19 movies in a single week in a test of how much you could consume on the 3-out-at-a-time plan. Basically, I received 3 movies in the mail on Monday, went to the store to exchange them for 3 more that same day. My next 3 movies from my online queue arrived on Wednesday, after which I exchanged them for 3 more at the store + I used my free movie coupon. I got 1 movie on Thursday and the other 2 movies from the queue on Friday which I exchanged on Saturday for 3 more at the store. That’s 19 movies in a single week for the $16.99/month plan. If you keep it up all month, you can get theoretically get over 70 movies in a single month, which is less than $0.25/movie rental!
