Free International Long Distance Calls on Your Cell Phone (like my Samsung Blackjack)
Here’s a great tip if you’re traveling short-term or long, and have a bunch of people you regularly call that requires international long distance…and it’s perfect for cell phones like the Blackjack, Blackberry, Treo, iPAQ, Motorola Q, Nokia smartphones, SonyEricsson, etc.
A free service with a twist on VoIp is available from JaJah.com. Instead of direct calls to someone else using VoIP, the service takes your telelphone or cell phone number, and the phone number of the person you want to call through their webpage — after you hit go, they call you first, and then connect the call to the other party. THUS, neither of you need a VoIP adapter, hardware, etc. You can use and call any phone in the world. And of course there’s the network effect — calls between JahJah members are free globally.
JaJah.com just came out with a mobile edition of their site, so you can now initiate calls from your web browswer on the Samsung Blackjack or other smartphone with a web browser. Just go to… mobile.jajah.com, log into your account (you need to sign-up using a regular PC internet connection first). The mobile web page will recognize your phone number and all you have to do is input the telephone number of the friend you want to call. A confirmation page will tell you that your phone will ring — and once you pick it up, Jajah.com will call the other party and connect your call…completely free when you call any other jajah member’s registered number. JAJAH Mobile Web claims that it works well with these operating systems: Windows CE, PocketPC, Symbian OS, MS Smartphone and a bunch of others.
Of course, you don’t have to use a cell phone. In fact, the service will connect ANY two telephone lines. Landline-to-landline, cell phone-to-landline, landline-to-cellphone, cell-phone-to-cellphone, etc, etc.
If you call non-JaJah.com members, it’s just 2.9 cents/min within the USA and relatively cheap for most other countries. I don’t suggest this to be used if you’re going to use it for paid international calling a lot. But if you get your family and friends to register their phone numbers in a free Jajah.com account, it can be worth it for repeated calling.
At the very least, it’s worth it to sign-up for a free account and test it out. I’m sure you’ll smile when it connects your test call to a friend. Wow. It works. That’s using the power of technology for something useful!
