Samsung Blackjack Tip: Finding Phone Numbers For Stores, Merchants and Other Businesses
Here’s a tip that’s starting to become a habit of mine. Whenever I’m in the car, the question always comes up if a store we know sells something or has it in stock. Or what time they close. Or to see if there is a huge wait at the restuarant.
BUT, no one in the car has their phone number! Instead of going through the convoluted 411 services’ now automated interactive voice menu trees, I’ve been clicking over the Windows Mobile Internet Explorer on my Samsung Blackjack to quickly look up the telephone number.
I have Google bookmarked as one of my “Favorites” on the phone, so it’s 3 clicks to get to MENU, FAVORITES, #4 for Google.com (shortcut to go to the 4th URL on my bookmark list), and then GO.
Once I get to google, I simply type in the name of the business and town + state to search for that business. More often than not, the company is already listed in the White Pages or other phone directory databases and Google serves it up with a link as the 1st search result on the phone’s screen.
The really convenient part is that I can just click on the number which is hyperlinked on the phone’s broswer to initate the call. No writing numbers down or forgetting them after aimlessly trying to memorize the number from the Internet Explorer page before switching back to phone mode and dialing and waiting.
I’ve done this look-up head to head with my wife going the good ol’ voice route and calling 411. More than 50% of the time, I get the number faster.
It’s good to know about technology that actually helps you with the little details of life, no?
