Why You Need DivX Pro Video Software
You’ve probably heard of DivX, but what exactly is it and why do I care? Here’s a simple answer:
mp3 format —> music & audio files
DivX format —> video files
Unless you have terrabytes of hard drive space just sitting around wasting away and taking up space, you’re probably in search of ways to keep file sizes down for your multimedia files (or you will be soon!).
DivX is basically a multimedia digital compression format for video that allows you to easily view, archive and share video content. THe DivX Player is free for everyone if you wanted to view any DivX video files.
However, if you want to rip or create video into DivX format, then you’ll have to buy DivX Converter to do that and more. Basically, if you wanted to convert video files so that they are compressed and take up little room on your hard drive, while keeping the quality of the video as high as possible, DivX is for you.
The DivX Pro Bundle comes with the Converter software which is easy as dragging and dropping files on top of the DivX icon on your computer. And the ProCodec — which is basically a premium converter “engine” to make better quality video files.
If you’re primarily going to just watch videos, you don’t need it. But if you’re going to convert home movies from your camcorder or digital camera or cell phone that records video, you’ll want the Pro version.
DivX is gaining much popularity. Many DVD Players support the DivX format. Since you can fit multiple movies onto the save DVD-R in DivX format, it’s great for portable DVD Players when you’re on the road. I personally have the Philips 10″ white DVD Player with DivX support, and it’s been great (another great feature about the Philips player is that it has dual headset jacks so my kids won’t fight anymore when watching movies on the plane or in the car).
If you rip music from your CD’s, ripping video from your DVD’s is no biggie. And once you start amassing video from your video camera, digital camera that takes video clips, camera phone video, and DVD’s from your collection, you’l QUICKLY learn that you either need terrabytes of storage space or you need to find a way to compress all that video data to save file space while keeping the video quality high that it’s watchable on a large screen. DivX is the answer.
Just drop and drag video files onto the DivX Converter icon and the conversion compression process starts immediately. The reason why the Pro bundle is great is that it offers the better “Pro Codec”, basically, it’s a better conversion engine, so the video gets compressed more, while the quality of the video is higher than the standard codec in the free version of the software. Just for the Codec alone, the Pro version is worth it.
