Laziest Way To Convert to PDF

My brother recently emailed me about converting documents into PDF format.  It can be a pain in the neck to generate PDF format files if you don’t own Adobe Acrobat software (not the Reader).

There are great online PDF conversion services, as well as free PDF printer drivers that let you print to a virtual printer which produces and saves a PDF document on your hard drive.

However, sometimes, you don’t even have the time to spend doing these simple tasks.

Here’s the easiest, laziest way I know of creating PDF versions of your Microsoft Office documents. . . Read the rest of this entry »

Trace Telephone Numbers Back To Their Location

These days there’s tons of area codes.  You used to be able to quickly figure out where a call is coming from (or where you need to call) by the area code.

(212) is New York City

(310) is LA

(202) Washington D.C.

But these days, with the proliferation of telelphones, fax machines, cell phones, and now VoIP viritual phone lines, area codes are being created left and right.  Sometimes it is truely dizzying.

There are times where you just want to know where a call is coming from.  Thanks to the information age and the Internet, there are ways to help your cause.  Here’s how: Read the rest of this entry »

Free Wallpapers and Themes for Windows Mobile Cell Phones (like the Samsung Blackjack)

Ahhh…you are at peace with the world and your smartphone in your palm. . .

And wouldn’t it be nice if you could look at your phone and see a reflection of the tranquil beauty inside your mind? :-)

One way to change the scenery when looking at your phone everyday is to literally change it!

You can change the wall paper (background on the mobile phone screen desktop) as well as the themes that are used for the menus, directory pages, etc. Here’s some free downloads for you to try it out: Read the rest of this entry »

How to Supersize Your Laptop Screen At Home

Let me ask you a question…

Do you you use your laptop or your desktop computer at home as your “main computer”? Most probably, you’re like me in that you use your laptop all around the house and take it with you to different places. But you have a good ol’ desktop somewhere at home (probably with a nice LCD monitor) that you use somewhat regularly too.

In fact, you might even find yourself using your laptop at the same desk or table as the desktop computer.

What’s interesting about technology sometimes is that in the name of technology, we somehow adopt “lower” standards. A classic example is the telephone. We used to see commercials with the images of pins dropping by the phone to show off just how crystal clear the sound was when you’re calling someone. But there days, do you ever see any pins dropping on TV? Absolutely not! Because we live in a wireless world now, and strangely enough, everyone is pretty ok with the static-filled cell phone calls. Or the loud whooshing of the highway and cars in the background. Or the loud kids in the background while your shopping and talking at the same time with the kids down the aisles of Toys R Us. In the name of this “advancement” in technology to become tetherless on the phone, we all quietly accept the lower quality of voice transmission on cell phones…

Well, computing isn’t different. Users of laptops are forgiving for slower speeds, smaller hard drive space, etc…as well as smaller screens. And we forget about these sacrifices which we would never accept with desktop machines just because of the ‘portability’ laptops give us.

Long story short, it is interesting to visit friend’s homes squinting at tiny laptop screens when there’s a huge lcd monitor on the desk right next to them (powered off because it’s connected to the desktop computer).

Sacrifice no more…at least for this one factor of laptop computing at home… Read the rest of this entry »

Timeshifting Emails: How to Schedule Emails To Be Sent In The Future

Recently, I’ve been discovering and using productivity tools like reminder services to help organize and keep me efficient.  There’s a bunch of websites that allow you to ping yourself in the future via text message, IM, Google Calendar, Twitter, etc.  I personally like www.OhDontForget.com but some of the other one’s I keep coming across are:

If you get into the habit of using a reminder service, it can be a real big help.  But there are plenty of times where you wished other people are as (re-)mindful as you about things they shouldn’t forget…Or there are different circumstances where you just want to be able to email someone in the future, but know that you won’t be by the computer.

Perhaps some of you may think about using it to email co-workers during that “2nd hour of lunch” so that people think you’re back at your desk already…or even afterhours to make sure everyone knows just how hard you work…while you’re on your way home already! :-)

Of course there are tons of other possibilities that open up once you can schedule your emails to be delivered in the future… Read the rest of this entry »

How To Get 70GB of Music on Your 8GB iPhone

If you have an iPodTouch or iPhone, you’re probably maxing out on the music playback capabilities of the device.  In fact, I bet you probably shelled out a little more for the 8GB version just becuase you have so many songs you want to carry around with you.

The only problem is that from time to time, you get bored.

And you have to re-sync the Apple iPhone with your Mac or PC to swap out mp3 music files so that you have a fresh batch on your iPhone.

What if I said that you didn’t have to do it anymore!  What if I said that there’s a way for you to play any song that’s on your computer at home even though you are across the globe with your iPhone?

And what if I said that you can play any song on your computer at home as well as from 30 of your friend’s computers as well?  That would basically kill the need for that 8GB upgrade, no?  Perhaps you could have saved a little more cash and gone with the 4GB version of the iPhone or iPod Touch?

This is one of those “must installs” for the iPhone that everyone is raving about.

Ok, ok, I’ll stop stalling…here’s how. . .
